On a different topic, as a Certified British Person, in your second act as Messiah-Speaker, can you advise me how to place your very strange postage onto an American-bound postcard? I assume that the normal-looking stamp with the Queen goes in the regular stamp spot, but where does the blue "BY AIRMAIL/PARAVION" sticker/stamp go? Why must this be mysterious?
Certified British People do not send postcards to the colonies! But as Messiah-Speaker, I advise you to go to your local post office and ask them.
Thanks, Octavius. As Speaker I promise one simple thing. I will do my job. I hope my term as Speaker will be remembered as one full of efficiently passed legislation that was never hampered by the Speaker. The Speaker should, if anything, lubricate legislation, make the Assembly a place conducive to both discussion and actual acts of legislating, rather than slow down the process. Legislation must never be hurried, and the Speaker should not actively force any item of legislation, but I do believe this does not preclude the legislative process being quick and efficient. Make speed not haste. I thank everyone who voted for me.
And to those who voted against me, I also thank them, for proving that Antica still maintains its fierce argumentative nature. Recently I have noticed most legislation has been passed or voted down with quite a wide margin, with only one or two individuals voting against the current. While this could be construed as an indicator of the effectiveness of the Antican legislative process- that we can reconcile all but extremists in every piece of legislation- I am also wary of the creeping possibility of a 'herd mentality' where every bill is voted up or down almost unanimously without thought or due care. That was one of the greatest crimes of the Commonwealth period, and one I am glad to see rejected in this election.
